Description

Cole (Bruce Willis) is sent back in time to save the human race from a deadly virus that has forced mankind into dank underground communities in the future. Along his travels, he encounters a psychiatrist (Madeleine Stowe) and a mental patient, brilliantly portrayed by Brad Pitt, who may hold the key to the mysterious rogue group, the Army of the 12 Monkeys, thought to be responsible for unleashing the killer disease. Believing he can obtain a pure virus sample in order to find a cure in the future, he is met with one riddle after another that puts him in a race with time. This sci-fi masterpiece from the genius mind of Terry Gilliam is a modern-day classic.

This is truly a thinking person’s movie. It leaves you guessing and wondering if it was all in the mind of the protagonist or was what he was experiencing was real. There’s a lot of themes here to explore and even after the credits roll it leaves you questioning reality. I highly recommend this to anyone. Great film. Also check out Looper. It’s on the same lines but, equally great.

This show rocked for 9 episodes. It is now dead.
  • Predictable, dingy, weird, dated.

After hearing about this movie from a friend, my husband insisted we watch it. He usually has bad taste in movies so I did a little research and found that overall, this film has very good ratings, so I agreed to rent it. Maybe it was interesting and groundbreaking during the 90's when it was made but, as of 2014, it is laughable. I kept waiting for some big twist but was disappointed to have predicted the ending towards the start. It was unnecessarily and overly strange the entire way, which most good psycho thrillers are, but it was strange in a meaningless to the plot way. And what is up with all of the bare butts? My husband and I would just burst out laughing every time one randomly came on screen. The acting was good for the most part and Brad Pitt was great, but I would say don't waste your time. This film just doesn't compare to its current contemporaries.

Apple itunes pleaaaasseeeee. No wonder your stock price is tanking. Make the HD version available for purchase. Come on Apple! Give it up. Pay whatever Terry Gilliam wants and make it available on HD!!!!! UPDATE - Finally it's available in HD on iTunes. Only waited a year. Too slow Apple iTunes. I already bought it at my local store for $10. Now I'm going to give you a hint. Always offer movies in HD from the start. Anyone capable of buying on-line and with the money to afford movies does not want low resolution crap.
